Chinese Immigrant Writes Viral Facebook Post in Response to Recent Executive Action on Guns
'The champion of all the mass killings in this world is always a tyrannical government'

A Facebook post written by a Chinese immigrant, Lily Tang Williams, that criticizes the Obama administration’s recent executive action on guns has gone viral.

In the post, which features Williams standing in front of an American flag holding an AR-15 rifle, she writes of the dangers that Obama’s executive actions pose to the rights of U.S. citizens.

“If you believe more gun control by your government is going to save lives, you are being naïve. The champion of all the mass killings in this world is always a tyrannical government,” she wrote, likely referring to the Chinese Communist Party’s rule, which has caused the direct or indirect deaths of tens of millions of people (the Campaign to Suppress Counterrevolutionaries, The Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and a number of other purges).

“Where I came from, China had killed thousands of the students by its own government during the massacre of Tian An Men square in 1989. I surely wish my fellow Chinese citizens back then had guns like this one I am holding in the picture,” she said, referring to the thousands of students who were killed during the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, when the Chinese regime directed the army to quash student protests.

“I am a Chinese immigrant and an American citizen by choice. I once was a slave before and I will never be one again,” Williams added.

“I will always stand with my AR, no matter what my President signs with his pen.”

A large number of people expressed their support for her position on her Facebook page.

“Hi Lilly, I am too a Chinese, luckily we were never oppressed by the communist China, however, my grandparents’ property and land was confiscated by Mao and put them in a labor concentration camp and died from hunger. Welcome to America. America is a great country,” wrote one person on her page.

Williams has spoken out about the Second Amendment in the past, testifying in Colorado to support a repeal on the state’s ban on large-capacity magazines.

In Obama’s forthcoming State of the Union speech–the last of his presidency–he will leave an empty seat next to the first lady to represent victims of gun violence across the U.S., according to the White House.

The open seat was for “the victims of gun violence who no longer have a voice–because they need the rest of us to speak for them,” according to the Obama administration. The seat, he added, will “remind every single one of our representatives that it’s their responsibility to do something about this.”

Obama said he’s using the final 11 or so months in office to change gun laws because Congress has failed to act accordingly.

Last week, Obama went on CNN during a town hall meeting, and he took questions from a number of people, including pro-gun activists. The president elaborated on what he’s trying to do with his recent executive action.

Obama said, “it’s really important for us not to suggest that if we can’t solve every crime we shouldn’t try to solve any crimes.”

“The problem when we talk about that guns kill people, people kill people. Or it’s primarily a mental health problem. Or it’s a criminal and evil problem. And that’s what we have to get at. All of us are interested in fighting crime. … That’s a huge priority to us,” Obama added.

“The challenge we have is that in many instances you don’t know ahead of time who is going to be the criminal. It’s not as if criminals walk around with a label that says, ‘I’m a criminal,'” Obama continued. “And by the way, the young man who killed those kids in Newtown — he didn’t have a criminal record. … But he was able to have access to an arsenal that allowed him in very short order to kill a classroom of small children.”
