New York Knicks Player Mugged, Shot in Queens Near Strip Club

One of the youngest members of the New York Knicks was robbed in the early morning of Dec. 30 in Queens.

Cleanthony Early, 24, was surrounded by four to six men, two of whom had guns, near the CityScapes strip club on 58th Street in the Maspeth neighborhood.

Early, a second-year forward, left the club around 4:30 a.m. with his girlfriend.

They got in an Uber cab, which drove for about a mile before being trapped by three cars.

The men approached and pulled Early from the back seat, police sources told the NY Daily News. “Give me everything you got,” one said.

Early handed over two gold necklaces and gold caps from his teeth, as well as cash and an iPhone 6.

But he was still shot in the right leg, detectives told Pix11.

Early was taken to the hospital and was undergoing surgery. The Knicks said in a statement the injuries are not life-threatening.

“We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation. We will not comment any further until we receive more information,” a spokesman said.

Early is the second Knicks player to be targeted this month—his teammate Derrick Williams was robbed of jewelry worth more than $600,000 from his apartment.
