Hui Liangyu, Vice Premier of China's State Council, said on the 20th that China faces a severe threat from the bird flu. The World Health Organization (WHO) also expressed concerns on the recent outbreak of bird flu.
China announced the first bird flu case two months after the outbreak. This case caused 2,600 deaths of farm birds, mostly chickens, in Inner Mongolia.
The Xinhua News Agency quoted Hui, "This country is currently at the peak of bird flu epidemic outbreak. The situation is very severe."
Hui delivered the order from Hu Jintao, Head of the State, and Wen Jiabao, Premier of State Council, and asked officials to prevent the spread of bird flu virus in full scale, "We can't slack our defense and underestimate the danger of the outbreak."
Hui also said that, in order to prevent this disease from spreading to humans, proper isolation measures need to be taken, as well as speeding up the monitoring network.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture of PRC also announced that 91,000 birds were killed after the latest case of bird flu was discovered.
