Over 200 Falun Gong Practitioners Die From Persecution in 2006

CHINA—According to incomplete statistics from Minghui.net, 216 Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China died from persecution in 2006, among them were 99 women or 46 percent of the deaths. The death toll has been confirmed through non-government sources.

The 216 confirmed deaths from persecution in 2006 occurred throughout 26 provinces, cities and autonomous regions across the whole country. Of the 216, 35 took place in Heilongjiang Province, 31 in Jilin Province and 25 in Liaoning Province (all three provinces in the northeast of China) (above three provinces from northeast China); 20 in Hebei Province and 18 in Shandong Province (two provinces in the central coast area of China) (above two provinces in central coast area of China); 12 in Sichuan Province, 10 in Hubei Province, 9 in Chongqing City, 8 in Hunan Province; 6 each in Gansu Province and Henan Province; 5 each in Beijing City, Shanxi Province and Jiangsu Province; 3 each in the Inner Mongol and Jiangxi Province; 2 each in Guangdong Province, Tianjin City, Kweichow Province, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Shaanxi Province; 1 each in Shanghai City, Zhejiang Province, Guangxi province, Anhui Province and Fujian Province.

During the seven and a half year period from July 20, 1999 to December 31, 2006, so far a total of 3,011 Falun Gong practitioners have been confirmed dead from persecution. Among them, 1631 were women, accounting for 54 percent. Eight of the total dead were between ages 10 and 19. One hundred and fifteen of the total dead were between ages 20 and 29. The monthly average death toll was 33.

Because of the highly effective information blockade in mainland China, it is believed that these confirmed cases account for only a fraction of the actual total deaths from persecution.

In the seven years of persecution, the number of Falun Gong practitioners and families who suffered persecution is reportedly in the tens of thousands and the whereabouts of many are still unknown.

Since March 2006, after allegations of large-scale organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners were first disclosed to the international community, the Chinese communist regime has repeatedly denied these allegations and refused requests from the international community to enter China to conduct independent investigations.

After reports of organ-harvesting first appeared, the Chinese regime launched another round of abductions of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

The Falun Gong practitioners who were abducted in 2006 were killed soon after being captured.
