Ground Worker Dies When Ingested by Aircraft Engine

CHINA – On May 12 a ground worker died on the spot after being sucked into the engine of an aircraft preparing to take off at Harbin Taiping International Airport, Heilongjiang province.

According to the Heilongjiang Daily News, when the incident happened, the Boeing 737-800, a civil aviation aircraft of Shanghai Airlines, was parking on a landing field. After the accident the entire area was immediately blockaded by police, ambulances and a lot of airport personnel.

The worker's corpse was covered with white clothes under the turbine engine of the aircraft's right wing and left a great deal of blood trailing for several meters behind the engine.

Travelers changed aircrafts after the accident occurred.

A witness indicated that the Boeing 737-800 was ready to carry out a scheduled flight from Harbin City to Shanghai City at 3:20 p.m. Somehow a ground worker was suddenly sucked into the engine of the aircraft before it took off.

Although the aircraft's engine was immediately turned off when the person disappeared, the man died instantly.

After the accident the aircraft didn't take off and the airport personnel soon moved the passengers off the aircraft.

Near 6:00 p.m. that evening, airport personnel started to clean the scene and examine the aircraft's engine.
