Railway Express from South China to Tibet Starts In October

China's Ministry of Railway (MOR) reported a direct railway express service will commence operation for passengers travelling from Shanghai and Guangzhou to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet.

The direct railway express service from Shanghai to Lhasa will begin on October 1 at the start of the long golden holidays in China. The service provides a train departing every second day, with the journey taking approximately 52 hours. The Guangzhou to Lhasa line will start operation on October 2, and the journey takes about 57 hours.

Foreign travellers will need to obtain travel documents from certain branches of the Chinese government, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tibetan government offices, or the Ministries of tourism or Commerce.

According to the MOR, since the beginning of the operation of Tibet Railway on July 1, the line has carried 450,000 passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo.
