Editor’s Note on Coverage of John Liu
The Epoch Times does not endorse or favor specific candidates for public office. Why, then, do you see here a number of articles delving into the background of one current candidate for New York city comptroller, John Liu of Flushing?
We at The Epoch Times believe that the media has the responsibility to expose hidden threats and to warn the public of potential dangers. This uncovering can take many forms in many different stories. Today it takes the form of warning people of the dangers posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and, in the case of John Liu, the danger posed by a CCP-backed candidate running for public office in the United States.
To be clear: this is about a foreign government—and not just any foreign government, but an authoritarian communist regime—influencing an election, and holding an elected official in the palm of its hand. The CCP is thus infiltrating American society at the highest level. This one case is very likely only the tip of the iceberg, one of many such cases of manipulation by the CCP of the democratic process for its own advantage.
The CCP works tenaciously and systematically to place its people—or people it can control—in every level of society and in key positions in corporations, academia, and government in the United States and other countries. The consequences for these organizations, and thus for all citzens, from intercepted trade secrets and intelligence, stagger the imagination.
The Epoch Times is uniquely positioned to tell the story of John Liu and his closeness to the CCP. Our Chinese-language edition is part of the Chinese community in the United States, and only Chinese-speaking journalists can investigate such a story with the depth and extent you see here. This reporting is a combination of the hard work and talents of English-speaking and Chinese-speaking Epoch Times staff. Together they have brought this story of pernicious influence out into the light of day.
