More than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners and supporters rally on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capital in Washington, DC calling for an end to the twelve-year persecution of Falun Gong in China. Numerous members of the U.S. Congress, and leading NGOs, including Amnesty International and Freedom House, spoke out against China’s repression of the peaceful spiritual movement, also known as Falun Dafa.

A Senate resolution, introduced July 13, and announced at the rally, calls on the Chinese Communist Party to “immediately cease and desist from its campaign to persecute Falun Gong practitioners and promptly release all Falun Gong practitioners who have been confined, detained, or imprisoned in retaliation for pursuing their right to hold and exercise spiritual beliefs.”

The resolution also expresses support for volunteers and participants of the Tuidang movement, an emerging non-violent movement in China that encourages Chinese citizens to renounce their ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
