DAYTON, Ohio—Dayton is known as a Midwest destination city for the arts. And the destination for January 27-28 is the Mead Theatre – Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m.—to see the world renown Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company.

“A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance,” states the company’s website.

Shen Yun’s mission is to restore ancient Chinese civilization through classical Chinese dance. This traditional culture was almost completely destroyed by the communist regime, particularly though the Cultural Revolution. Since Shen Yun is based in New York, it has the freedom to express beloved Chinese legends, myths, values, and the modern history of China to the fullest.

Audiences often describe the Shen Yun performances as amazing, stunning, inspiring, and uplifting.

Stewart F. Lane, producer and six-time Tony Award winner said: “It is just an amazing experience here! It’s quite exciting to watch. Quite inspirational.”

Véronique Potvin, acclaimed principal violist of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, recently described Shen Yun: “Artistically it’s just a good show for the soul, especially these days with everything happening on the planet. For two hours you just forget about the things you don’t want to think about. This is top quality.”

This will be its second season performing in the Gem City, a city known for multiple ballet companies, opera, and orchestra. It also boasts that the National Museum of the United States Air Force is the absolute largest and oldest military aviation museum in the world.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has four touring companies that perform around the world. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org.
