Non-Profit CEO Feeling ‘Wonderful’ after Watching Shen Yun

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—Nancy Sheppard, founder & CEO of Women2Boards, was a little under the weather coming into the Friday performance of Shen Yun in San Francisco but left feeling wonderful. “It’s just flowing,” she said. “It feels wonderful, it’s a beautiful feeling.”

Ms. Sheppard attended the Friday afternoon performance with her sister-in-law, Patti Popovich, owner of Poppy Interior Design Service.

“The dance is just phenomenal, I love it. And I love the way they’ve done the [animated backdrop] behind it,” said Ms. Sheppard. “It’s very engaging … absolutely gorgeous.”

Ms. Sheppard, who was chosen as one of the 100 Most Influential San Francisco Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times in 2011, goes on to describe the performance as a historical “walk through the dance of China.”

“I’m totally engaged with the history of each dance and different areas of China,” added Ms. Popovich. “The costumes, textiles, and jewelry are also different. It’s fascinating. It’s wonderful.”

According to Shen Yun’s website, “Every costume in a Shen Yun performance is presented with brilliant colors, displaying a splendid spectacle —from the Tang Dynasty’s ‘Raiment of Rainbows and Feathers’ to imperial dragon robes, phoenix coronets, and cloud capes … to the ethnic attire of the Manchurian, Tibetan, Dai, Mongol, and Uyghur ethnic groups. … Their objective is an authentic presentation of the attire that comes from China’s divinely inspired traditional culture, and a consummate stage effect.”

What did Ms. Popovich think of the show overall? “I think it’s fabulous!”
