MIAMI—Maria Antonia Ospina, a retired linguistics professor, found what she described as an “absolutely wonderful presentation” in Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 25 at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center Knight Concert Hall.

“I enjoyed it very much,” she added.

At Shen Yun’s roots is 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired culture. Each Shen Yun performance is accompanied by original compositions and the greatest of musical traditions from both East and West. According to Shen Yun’s website, “This is what makes Shen Yun’s music unique and is a new frontier in classical music.”

Ms. Ospina agreed. “It was magnificent,” she said. “Wonderful to see the East and the West be intertwined, and the combination of being able to put the two cultures together was excellent … absolutely marvelous.”

She concluded that she “certainly will come again,” adding that she hopes Shen Yun “will come to Miami again.”

Waiting for Shen Yun

Also in attendance was Frank Perez, whose wife is Chinese. Mr. Perez was so struck by Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra he noted his intention to attend Shen Yun’s Dec. 26 performance in Fort Lauderdale “because it’s excellent,” he said.

That Dec. 26 performance will utilize the orchestra not at center stage, but as accompaniment to classical Chinese dance. Through this universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun will take audiences on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture.

As for the orchestra, Mr. Perez said that he “couldn’t ask for more.”

“Oh, you hear the music and you find yourself—one, in the forest,” he said. “The celestial music at the beginning, the descent of the deities—it’s great. It makes you feel light. There’s another one that you can feel the water as the harp and the rest of the instruments play.”

Overall, Mr. Perez summarized the performance as simply as he could: “That was fun,” he said. “Love it! Love it!”
