Three earthquakes hit today near Azle and Reno in Texas.

The first quake hit just one mile west-southwest of Reno and four miles northwest of Azle in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It hit at a depth of 3.1 miles and measured 2.5 magnitude, the U.S. Geological Service said.

The second quake hit two miles west of Azle, at a depth of 3.1 miles, and measured 2.8-magnitude on the Richter scale.

On Monday night, a third quake hit one mile north-northwest of Azle, a 3.6 magnitude at a depth of 3.1 miles. (see location of the third quake below)

Azle is in Tarrant County and Reno is in Parker County.

In recent days there have been multiple tremors around the same intensity, reported the Dallas News. Railroad Commission of Texas records indicate there are dozens natural gas disposal wells in the area.

The FracFocus website run by the Groundwater Protection Council indicates dozens of wells in both Tarrant and Parker counties.

The USGS said that most of North America east of the Rocky Mountains doesn’t frequently experience earthquakes, including in the area where the these three quakes hit, which is called the stable continental region.

People in the area said that they felt the quakes.

John Basham said he felt the 3.6 quake under his home in Reno. “Scared wife and kids, lasted for 4 seconds,” he said.

Tami Carr of CBS said that some people in Arlington felt the 3.6 quake.

And Brett Tomlinson of Fort Worth said that “my house shook quite a bit and I thought several large trees were falling on my house.”
