Ken Griffey Jr. daughter: Taryn Griffey, a basketball prospect, has committed to play at the University of Arizona.

The 5-foot-6 guard is considered a top 50 prospect.

She said she chose the school because her older brother, Trey, is a redshirt freshman in Arizona’s football program.

My family was pretty shocked. I hadn’t said anything because I didn’t really know what I was thinking,” Griffey said, according to Bright House Sports Network, an Orlando-based broadcaster. “My brother is here and my dad and him were high fiving.”

Griffey sat out her junior year after winning Class 8A Player of the Year as a sophomore while leading Dr. Phillips High School (in Orlando) to s second straight state title.

She also said she'll be able to create her own identity at Arizona.

“One thing I really wanted to do ever since I was younger was make a name for myself and for a program, like how Skylar Diggins made her name at Notre Dame and Brittany Griner made her name at Baylor,” Griffey said.
