SAN JOSE, Calif.—David Sorensen, a Senior Vice President at a Bay Area Wells Fargo branch, and his wife Heather were struck by their first experience of live classical Chinese dance.
“It’s very good, very good, very entertaining,” Mrs. Sorensen said.
“Very colorful, … graceful,” Mr. Sorensen added.
The couple saw Shen Yun Performing Arts’ Touring Company perform for a full house Friday night at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Sorensen was impressed with the synchronization of the performers, and Mrs. Sorensen admired their discipline.
“You can tell by watching it that it has taken countless hours of preparation,” she said.
In addition to classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun’s three companies perform ethnic dances from among the dozens of ethnic groups in China. The mission of the company is to revive the traditions of China’s 5,000 years of civilization which have been nearly lost under the rule of the Chinese communist regime.
Both of the Sorensens were impressed with the Mongolian Bowl Dance, a dance of hospitality in which female dancers twirl and pose while balancing up to three bowls stacked on top of their heads.
“[It was] very good,” Mr. Sorensen said of the dance.
“I kept on thinking ‘What would they do if one dropped?’ But they never did,” Mrs. Sorensen said.
Mrs. Sorensen was also thrilled by the Shen Yun Orchestra.
“I love the Chinese music,” she said, “I thought it was beautiful. I love an orchestra; there’s no comparison for an orchestra versus just having it taped.”
