A Kenyan mother named her two newborn twins Barack and Mitt after presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Millicent Owuor, 20, gave birth to the twins on Nov. 7, the same day Obama secured his reelection.
“I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt,” she told Reuters.
According to photographs published by Kenya-based The Standard newspaper, Owuor posed with her two children on Wednesday at Siaya District Hospital, located in southwestern Kenya.
The hospital where Owuor gave birth to the twins is located very close to President Obama’s ancestral village of Kogelo where celebrations were taking place, reported The Standard.
Sarah Onyango Obama, the president’s step-grandmother, celebrated Obama’s victory in Kogelo, reported the Global Post.
“I rate this victory higher. It was euphoria that took him into office the first time but this one is more meaningful because it is the decision of the Americans after seeing his work,” she told the news website.
Obama’s half-brother, Mustafa Obama, told Reuters: “If I had a chance to talk to him [President Obama], which hopefully I will get after he is inaugurated again, my message would be to focus on Africa.”
“If he can put more emphasis on education, health and all that matters to Africa instead of politics, that is my message to my brother,” Obama told the news agency.
