The 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima was commemorated on Friday. For the first time in history, a US Ambassador to Japan and the UN Secretary-General attended the ceremony.

After a bell was rung at 8:15 a.m., the same time the bomb stuck 65 years ago, wreaths were laid down and white doves were released to remember the some 140,000 lives lost during the blast.
