After it was reported that the former spokesperson to slain Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was captured by the Libyan government, he denied the claims, saying that he is not even in the country.
Moussa Ibrahim, the spokesman, released an audio message online that reports of his capture was to distract people away from alleged crimes being committed in the city of Bani Walid, which holds many militants who are still loyal to Gadhafi, reported CNN. Militants from Misrata have besieged the town and clashes flared last week.
“We are currently outside of Libya and we have no communication with Bani Walid,” Ibrahim said, according to the network. “We are not even close to Bani Walid.”
In the past month, Ibrahim has denied being captured by Libyan forces twice.
The Libyan government said he was captured in the town of Tarhouna and was en route to Tripoli, the capital. However, a government spokesperson later told Sky News that there was no confirmation that he was captured.
“On the subject of my arrest today … it is an attempt to draw attention away from the crimes committed by NATO’s rebels against our people in Bani Walid,” he said, according to Sky News.
