Wayne Mills is dead after getting shot in Nashville early Saturday morning.
Mills succumbed to his injuries later in the day, the Wayne Mills Band said.
The band said Mills was shot by a club owner.
The Tennessean reported that the club owner was Chris Ferrell, 44, who owns Pit and Barrel on Second Ave. S.
Ferrell says he shot Mills in self-defense after an argument broke out. Mills was smoking a cigarette in a nonsmoking area, prompting Ferrell to confront him. Witnesses said shortly after they heard gunshots.
Nashville police said they’re still investigating the death of the country singer.
