INDIANAPOLIS—After seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts advertised, Mr. Robert Butcher knew he had to see it. He joined the enthusiastic audience at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University, Wednesday evening, Feb. 6.
Through dance, Shen Yun depicts “heavenly realms, ancient legends and heroic modern-day epics” and “presents themes of compassion and courage with stunning beauty and tremendous energy,” the website states.
Mr. Butcher, retired general manager for a national multi-million dollar defense company shared his appreciation and said the show was “comforting, entertaining and enjoyable.”
He added that he had come “not looking to get anything other than entertainment,” but was moved by the depth of the performances. He said, “The culture that they are showing, the Chinese culture, is very interesting, and to see the history of China presented this way. It’s very good.”
New York-based Shen Yun aims to restore 5,000 years of divinely inspired civilization, and its most celebrated means is classical Chinese dance.
“Classical Chinese dance has a long history of thousands of years, passed down continuously within the imperial palace and ancient Chinese theater and opera. Soaking up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, it has become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles with its unique dance movements, rhythms, and inner meaning,” according to the company’s website.
Mr. Butcher was amazed by the gracefulness of the dancers, and said “I like the color and the gracefulness of the dancers.”
He would highly recommend that his friends and family see the show and felt that Shen Yun presented the profound levels of classical Chinese culture, “It would be educational, interesting, and cultural. Open your mind a little to China—besides what you read in the headlines.”
