A Brazilian court on Monday ordered Air France to pay US$727,000 to remaining members of a Brazilian family that perished in a June 2009 plane crash, reported AFP.
The money is being awarded to the parents and grandparents of Luciana Clarkson Seba, a 31-year-old female who died in the crash along with her husband and his parents.
Flight 447 crashed in the Atlantic after leaving Rio de Janeiro, headed to Paris. Malfunctioning speed sensors are thought to be responsible for the crash that claimed all 228 lives on board. Efforts to recover the black box have not succeeded, reports VOA.
A spokesperson for the airline told AFP that “the airline does not comment on court decisions and will not issue any statement.”
It is thought that the verdict may bring further lawsuits from other relatives of victims.
