NEW YORK—Two teachers were among the dozens who perished during Superstorm Sandy, according to the city teacher’s union publication.
Jessie Streich-Kest, a 24-year-old special education teacher at the Bushwick School for Social Justice in Brooklyn, was crushed by a tree while walking her dog on Oct. 29, according to the New York Teacher.
Henry Sullivan, 57, a medical science teacher at Brooklyn’s Abraham Lincoln High School, perished in his Far Rockaway home after going into the basement to turn off the gas—never re-emerging.
“We suffered a great loss … a teacher, colleague, and friend,” wrote colleague Sarah Fanning, according to the publication. Fanning and others at the school are collecting memories into a book and will present it to Sullivan’s wife.
