Marines unload toys for needy children in Times Square on Wednesday. Maj. Bill Hendricks of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve started Toys for Tots in 1947, after his wife asked him to deliver a doll she had made to an organization that would give it to a needy child; at the time, no such organization existed. In New York City, the Marine Corps Reserve now collects hundreds of thousands of toys every holiday season. (Benjamin Chasteen/The Epoch Times)
