The lawsuit against Taco Bell regarding the content of their beef was dropped on Tuesday, April 19.

A California woman filed suit against the Tex-Mex chain several months ago regarding the “seasoned beef” label on several products, including tacos, Burrito Supremes, and other items. The suit was accusing the chain of false labeling. The plaintiff wanted to stop Taco Bell from putting the term “beef” on its products.

“What Taco Bell is representing on their restaurant menu as ‘ground beef’ does not meet any of those definitions, standards, and labeling guidelines,” Beasley Allen attorney Dee Miles stated in January.

When the suit was filed, Taco Bell immediately said such claims were untrue.

In the suit, the Alabama-based firm Beasley Allen, which filed the suit, said Taco Bell’s meat did not have enough beef to warrant the label “beef,” further claiming that filler was used to make it look more bulky.

“This sets the record straight about the high quality of our seasoned beef and the integrity of our advertising,” stated Greg Creed, the Chief Executive Officer of Taco Bell.

Creed said that the attorneys should have contacted the chain first before filing suit.

“We are extremely proud of our food quality. We took great exception to the false claims made about our seasoned beef and wish the attorneys had contacted us before filing and publicizing a lawsuit that disparaged our brand,” he added.
