As a stolen yacht washes ashore in Pacifica, Calif., the owner sees it on a television news broadcast and contacts police.

A stolen yacht washed ashore in Pacifica, Calif., cutting the joy ride short for three suspected thieves: Leslie Gardner, 63, Dario Mira, 54, andLisa Modawell, 56.

Pacifica police had received a report at 5:15 a.m. on Monday that the 80-foot luxury vessel had run aground just off of the Linda Mar State Beach. A rescue operation ensued.

The occupants of the boat were unwilling to discuss the boat, and police later learned that it was stolen from its berth in Sausalito, Calif., about 20 miles away.

The owner, John Fruth,  had seen the boat wash ashore on a television news broadcast and contacted police. The three suspects were arrested and charged with grand theft and conspiracy, according to the police report.
