Honeymoon shark attack: A French man was killed while he was on his honeymoon on the island of Reunion.

The 36-year-old man was attacked two times by a shark as he was surfing near the Brisants de Saint-Gilles beach, located on the Indian Ocean island, reported The Metro.

The man was discovered by a swimmer who saw blood in the water before he alerted lifeguards.

However, the newlywed man lost too much blood and did not survive.

“The beach has now been closed for swimming as everything is being done to find the shark. It’s still open for sunbathing, however,” the tourism office for Reunion told the paper.

France’s Newsring reported that the couple were from Morteau, located in eastern France. They traveled there with their 18-month-old son, according to the Huffington Post.

AFP reported that the shark attack was the first shark attack on the island this year. Three people have been killed by shark attacks in previous years, while another attack last year left a person seriously wounded.
