The Epoch Times asked Bay Area locals how they have prepared themselves for the ‘next big one.’
Sharon Heiny, 28, marketing operations manager, Russian Hill
“Not at all! I am very optimistic about the next earthquake. I am very prepared in terms of attitude, not so much in terms of goods. Though I probably have enough dried goods and flashlights and everything that I’m inadvertently prepared, but not actively prepared.”
Amado Mangabat, 60, insurance broker, Daly City
“[We have] items at home, still in the bucket, like water, flashlight, things like that. But it’s been there for three years now. And we have something in the house where I ask my children … if the doors are locked in front, we have a way out in the back.”
Louis Arriaga, 14, student, Nob Hill
“I don’t really care anymore. I just sit around and if it happens, I’m used to it. So I don’t really care. I’m from San Francisco; if you grow up here, you get used to it. And you know that it’s coming, so you know what to do once it happens.”
Joseph Buchanan, 28, bicycle courier, Oakland
“Yes, I’ve got an earthquake kit. I should have more water, but I don’t. … I think I’m pretty prepared. I live over in Oakland, so hopefully nothing is going to fall on me. I mean, not like here.”
Tom, 56, security guard, San Francisco
“Yes. Just extra stuff, like foodstuff at home. Because I live in an apartment, which is good already, it had its structure repaired. Like groceries … mostly water; we got a lot of water.”
Margaret, 89, retired bookbinder, Financial District
“Yes, of course. Well, I have all the things I need, and I’m living over in the Gateway, and I think it’s pretty solid. It went through the last one.”
