Johnson & Johnson announced that they are going to recall millions of packages of the commonly-used antacid.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a unit under the pharmaceutical company, said that it is recalling a slew of different types of Rolaids.
The company received several complaints that there were foreign materials in the product, including pieces of wood and metal.
The New York Times reports that 13 million packages of the over-the-counter drug will be included in the recall.
“The company’s investigation has determined that the materials were potentially introduced into the product during the manufacturing process at a third party manufacturer,” the company stated. However, the risk of being injured or sick using the product “is remote,” McNeil stated, adding that consumers should stop using the product as soon as possible.
Included in the recall are Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews, and Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews.
Consumers who are concerned can call McNeil at 1-888-222-6036. The company will give instructions about refunds.
