Obama Trek Mix-up: President Barack Obama mixed up Star Trek and Star Wars when he slammed Republican leaders from not coming to a compromise over averting $85 billion in sequestration cuts.

President Obama on Friday mixed up popular two science fiction franchises when he publicly blasted Republican leadership over the sequestration cuts.

Obama said that one would need to use a “Jedi mind meld” to convince GOP leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, to reach a deal to avert $85 billion in automatic sequester cuts.

However, Jedis don’t use a “mind meld” but use “mind tricks” to convince others to do their bidding in the Star Wars movies.

“Mind melding” is a technique used by members of the Vulcan race—most notably, Spock—throughout the Star Trek franchise. When a Vulcan plants his hands on another’s forehead, the Vulcan can read the thoughts of that person.

Obama and the Republican Congressional leaders met for just under an hour, but no deal was made, reported The Associated Press.

“I’m not a dictator. I’m the president,” Obama said, according to NBC News, after he came out of the meeting. “So ultimately if Mitch McConnell or John Boehner say ‘I need to go to catch a plane,’ I can’t have Secret Service block the doorway, right?”
