The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Wednesday that 377 people are now sickened with fungal meningitis, but the agency lowered the death count to 28.
The agency also said that Virginia is now reporting two deaths instead of three.
Ameridose, a company linked to the Massachusetts-based New England Compounding Center, accused of providing the tainted steroid injections, said Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling all of its products.
“Ameridose and FDA agree that the use of injectible products that are not sterile can represent a serious hazard to health,” the company said, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company shipped drugs across the United States and then warned costumers to quarantine the medication due to possible contamination.
“Ameridose has not received any adverse reports related to the products subject to this recall, and neither Ameridose nor the FDA has identified impurities in any Ameridose products,” the company said, but added that out of caution, it will go through with the recall.
