Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday that he would listen to testimony by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice if she were to be nominated for the secretary of state position.
McCain has criticized Rice over statements that she made after the attacks that killed four Americans in Benghazi in September.
“I’d give everyone the benefit of explaining their position and the actions that they took. I’d be glad to have the opportunity to discuss these issues with her,” McCain told “Fox News Sunday.”
Rice first said that the Benghazi attack was triggered by protests over an anti-Islam video. It was later discovered that the attack was likely premeditated.
However, Rice has denied that she was trying to mislead the country with her statements.
“I think she deserves the ability and the opportunity to explain herself and her position, just as she said. But, she’s not the problem,” McCain said. “The problem is the president of the United States.”
