A man was killed in a shark attack off the coast of Southern California, authorities said Tuesday.
The 38-year-old man, who was not identified, was surfing in Ocean Beach near the Vandenberg Air Force Base, reported Cal Coast News.
A friend who was surfing with the man said that he was bitten by a shark, reported CBS News. The friend swam over to him and pulled him out of the water.
The man sustained severe injuries from the shark attack and later died.
Emergency personnel performed CPR but were unable to revive the man. Later, the Santa Barbara County coroner’s vehicle took him away.
Two years ago, a 19-year-old Santa Barbara college student was killed by a great white shark at the same beach, according to the Los Angeles Times.
However, it is unknown what type of shark attacked the man Tuesday.
