Donald Trump Proposes to Buy Park51

Donald Trump on Thursday said that he would like to purchase the site of the proposed Park51 Islamic cultural center two blocks from Ground Zero. Trump said that he would purchase the site for the amount it was paid for plus another 25 percent on top of that.

“I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation,” he wrote in an e-mail dated Thursday, according to Bloomberg News.

As part of the proposed bid, Trump said that any community center built would have to be located five blocks farther away from ground zero.
