A police officer in New Jersey was videotaped apparently punching a woman in the face outside of a nightclub, according to reports on Wednesday.
Police in Elizabeth, New Jersey, told WNBC-TV they are investigating the video footage, which was posted on YouTube on March 3. Other iterations of the video were posted later after the original was taken down.
The video was recorded via cellular phone outside the Envy Night Club, showing yelling and a physical altercation. Toward the end, an officer appears in the background, throws a person in front of a woman down, grabs the woman, and hits her in the head.
He also appears to say, “Get down on the ground!” One can also hear the apparent sound of the punch hitting the woman, while onlookers yell, “Ohhhhh!” The video then stops after the punch.
An employee at Envy told the Huffington Post that the club is aware of the situation, but did not elaborate further.
