In a court fight between the world’s two largest smartphone makers, Samsung Electronics Co. won a legal ruling in the United Kingdom after a judge called its Galaxy tablets “not as cool” as Apple Inc.’s iPad, and therefore would not be confused for the iPad.
Judge Colin Birss said on Monday that the design for Samsung’s three Galaxy tablets does not infringe Apple’s registered design, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
The Galaxy Tablets “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design,” the judge said.
This court case is part of Apple’s effort to fight patent lawsuits around the globe against rivals including HTC Corp. and Samsung.
Apple has 21 days to appeal against the judgment.
