It’s early, so you never want to give up on a draft pick, but sometimes you have to make the move. You might win the league or find fool’s gold, but one thing is certain, you don’t want to be left watching as a competitor picks up the guy who wins him the league.

Good pickups for this week:

Quarterbacks

Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs—In many 10-team and some 12-team leagues Cassel did not get drafted. Although the Chiefs didn’t win, no one cares about that in fantasy football! Cassel is playing against some very weak defenses this year, so look for him to be ranked right around 15 this year for quarterbacks.

Running backs

C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills—With Fred Jackson out a minimum of four weeks, Spiller burst into 2012 with a huge game Sunday totaling 169 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown to go along with 2 receptions for 25 yards. Spiller now goes from a split-back flanker type guy in PPR (points per reception) leagues to the number one running back pickup in fantasy football.

Johnathan Dwyer, Pittsburgh Steelers—Isaac Redman did nothing really to secure the No. 1 job in Pittsburgh and we saw that Todd Haley absolutely wants to establish the run there. Nine rushes for 43 yards won’t win you any fantasy games, but a running back is a hard thing to come by here and his upside is BIG!

Running Back/Wide Receiver

Dexter McCluster, Kansas City Chiefs—If you’re in a PPR league he is an absolute must pickup. In standard scoring leagues you probably take a pass on him. He could easily be this year’s Darren Sproles.

Wide Receivers

Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints—He didn’t get drafted in over 40 percent of Yahoo and ESPN leagues so he is absolutely a target for the waiver wire. The Saints defense is horrid so the offense will be throwing the ball ALL YEAR. It is a crapshoot in New Orleans with Devery Henderson and Marques Colston there, but Drew Brees likes Moore and Lance says he is as healthy as he has ever been in his career.

Kevin Ogeltree, Dallas Cowboys—We all watched the opening game a week ago Wednesday. It doesn’t look like he will put up the numbers Laurent Robinson put up last year but he is absolutely worth a pick up in most leagues. If you have auction style free agency, don’t spend half your yearly budget on the guy, but take a run at him.
