Vick dog training: Eagles quarterback Michael Vick appears to be doing what a responsible pet owner would do: training his dog. He was spotted with his dog at a New Jersey-area PetSmart recently.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was spotted a New Jersey PetSmart store getting his dog trained.
Vick served nearly two years in prison on charges relating to illegal dog fighting.
Philadelphia sports blog CrossingBoard.com showed pictures of Vick training his dog, a Belgian Malinois named Angel, and he apparently shows up at the PetSmart frequently. The location of the store was not named in the article.
In October, Vick said that his family owns a dog, which is something that is legally OK for him to do.
“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said at the time, according to USA Today.
He added: “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.”
The dog “well cared for and loved as a member of our family,” Vick added. “This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
Vick had a rough, injury-plagued season last year, but he recently signed with the Eagles for a one-year contract. He threw for 2,362 yards with 10 interceptions and 12 touchdowns in 10 games.
Recently, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy endorsed Vick as the starting quarterback in new coach Chip Kelly’s offensive system.
“I think Michael Vick is the starting quarterback,” he said, according to NJ.com. “People forget—this is Michael Vick,” McCoy said. “He’s got a lot to prove this year, but he’s ready to roll. He knows people are questioning if he can get it done, and he’s gonna prove this year he can.”
