Tim Tebow threw his first touchdown pass on Sunday night, helping catapult the Denver Broncos over the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-17 in preseason action, but his performance was mixed.

Tebow threw his first touchdown but he also threw his first interception as well, completing 5 of 10 passes for 72 yards.

The University of Florida standout sat for a week due to bruised ribs he suffered on a touchdown run he made against the Cincinnati Bengals. He made his first home appearance coming off the bench in the second half.

On his first drive, Tebow went three and out due to an illegal procedure penalty. He threw an interception on his next drive and tackled Crezdon Butler on the interception return.

However, Tebow was able to orchestrate a 5-play, 74-yard drive, capping it off with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker.

Broncos starting quarterback Kyle Orton posted similar numbers completing 9 of 14 passes for 80 yards and an interception.

Steelers quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger started briefly, giving time for Dennis Dixon to play with starters. Roethlisberger has been suspended for six games due to allegedly assaulting a Georgia college student but is slated to talk to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday to get it reduced to four games.

In his absence, Byron Leftwich will likely start with Dixon serving as his back up. Dixon threw two interceptions--one returned for a touchdown--while completing 9 for 16 passes for 94 yards.
