Strakka Racing completed the second of three days of testing with the 2013 version of Honda Performance Design’s Le Mans Prototype 1-class endurance racer at Spain’s Motorland Aragon Circuit Monday.
Strakka Racing was the top-finishing team driving HPD’s 2012 car in the World Endurance Championship, coming in second behind Rebellion Racing’s Lola despite being only a single-car team. Strakka was thus chosen to test HPD’s latest, the ARX-03c.
The new car incorporates the wide front tires first debuted on the championship-winning HPD ARX-02a in 2009 and since adopted by class leaders Audi and Toyota.
According to HPD vice-president Steve Eriksen on the HPD website, “The 2013 HPD ARX-03c will feature this large front-tire format, along with a raft of aerodynamic and mechanical updates, boosting all-around performance.”
Strakka drivers Jonny Kane and Nick Leventis have been joined by ALMS P1 co-champion Klaus Graf of Muscle Milk Pickett Racing, which won the title in an HPD ARX-03a, the same car Strakka campaigned in 2012.
