An almost-buried detail from the Mazda Fan Festa 2012 on the Okayama website reveals a pending announcement on the factory’s 2013 LMP2 engine program.

Mazda Fan Festa 2012 at Okayama International Circuit in Mimasaka, Japan will be a one-day event featuring old and new racing Mazdas, track sessions, and lots of fan activities. It will also be the first public unveiling of Mazda’s Skyactiv-D diesel engine, possibly in a running chassis (the site is unclear.)

The event website states very clearly that Mazda will make an official announcement about its LMP2 plans in late Novemeber.

This announcement will end long speculation about which team Mazda might choose to run its latest motor, the only diesel currently being built to suit the new P2 regs.

American TV star and accomplished racer Patrick Dempsey’s Dempsey Racing team (currently using Judd engine in its Lola) seems to be the popular pick, as Dempsey has a long and deep racing relationship with the Japanese manufacturer.
