Magic Johnson $1M offer: Basketball legend Magic Johnson has unveiled a $1 million offer to the winner of the NBA slam dunk contest, but on one condition: LeBron James must join.
Magic Johnson said he will give $1 million to the winner of the upcoming NBA slam dunk contest in an attempt to lure LeBron James into the tournament.
Johnson said made the offer contingent on whether James joins the 2013 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, which he has never done before. His offer greatly exceeds the $100,000 prize for the winner.
“Please, LeBron, get in the dunk contest. I’m going to put up a million dollars,” Johnson, a former point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, said on ESPN. “A million dollars from Magic to LeBron. Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”
Johnson may have been inspired to hand out the cash after a video surfaced last week of James making a stellar dunk during a pre-game warmup. It has been speculated that if James gets into the contest, he could handily take the top prize.
But it is unclear if James will take Johnson’s offer and join the contest, as he has declined it year-after-year.
