The New York Jets will start rookie Stephen Hill at wide receiver opposite Santonio Holmes, according to a report on the NFL’s website which cites a report in the Star-Ledger Thursday.

“He is a rookie and he’s going to make some mistakes but I’m confident in him,” said Ryan. Ryan also acknowledged that cornerback Antonio Cromartie may see time at wide receiver as the Jets are clearly thin at the position.

The Jets moved up in the second round this past spring to take Hill, who displayed great speed and athleticism while playing for Georgia Tech in a primarily run-oriented offense.

Hill had an uneven preseason, as most rookie wide receivers do, but seemed the better option over second-year wideout Jeremy Kerley.
