The New York Islanders are moving to Brooklyn for the 2015–2016 season, according to a report on the NHL’s website.
Islanders owner Charles Wang has signed a 25-year lease to move his team alongside the Brooklyn Nets to Brooklyn’s brand new Barclays Center, which just opened last month.
“Our goal from the outset was to have the Islanders play in a local, world-class facility that possesses the amenities our fans deserve,” said Wang. “I’m happy to announce we achieve that goal with today’s announcement.”
Ironically the Nets, who were formally the New York Nets, shared the same arena with the Islanders from 1972–1977 when the two played at Nassau Coliseum.
“This announcement today reunites these two franchises,” Wang said.
