Ben Roethlisberger, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is reportedly going to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday to discuss his six game suspension.
NFL.com reports that Roethlisberger and the Steelers are trying to get the league to cut his suspension down from six games to only four.
NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello told the Associated Press that the two will meet in the near future.
“The commissioner has stated that he would make his decision prior to the start of the regular season and that he would meet with Ben again as part of the process,” Aiello said.
Roethlisberger, a two-time Super Bowl winner, was suspended for allegedly assaulting a college student in March. He has not been criminally charged in the case.
If Roethlisberger, nicknamed “Big Ben,” were to come back two games early, it could potentially be a great boon to the Steelers organization as he is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in NFL history. His passer rating is ranked ninth all-time at 91.7.
With a four-game suspension, Roethlisberger will play against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 17. With a six-game suspension, he won’t be back until Oct. 31 against the New Orleans Saints. However, despite the suspension, he has been able to play in preseason games.
