Two teams running Audi R8 Grand Ams at the 2013 Grand Am Rolex 24 at Daytona this January 26 have revealed their latest liveries.
APR Racing and Rum Bum Racing have each unveiled their 2013 paint schemes, along with their driver lineups for the 51st Rolex 24.
APR is campaigning its 51 Audi R8 for the second season. For 2013, the team is also adding a second car.
The 51 driving crew consists of Matt Bell, David Empringham, John Farano, and Alex Figge.
Twenty-seven year-old Matt Bell is the youngster of the team. He has been driving for Stevenson since 2010, after driving for Turner BMW for two years before that. In 2013 he’ll be in his second Rolex 24.
Forty-eight year-old David Empringham started out in single-seaters, winning the Toyota Atlantic and Indy Lights titles before switching to sports cars, winning the 2005 Grand Am Cup GS class title. Most recently Empringham and co-driver John Farrano won the 2012 Continental Tire Sports Car series title driving a Porsche for BGB Motorsports. Emrpringham has also finished as runner-up twice in the World Time Attack Challenge. This will be his eighth Rolex 24.
John Farano is the veteran of the team at 53. He has two Rolex 24 starts and a couple of seasons in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on his recent résumé. Farano and co-driver David Empringham shared the 2012 CTSCC title
Dave Lacey, at 44, has driven for ten seasons in the Rolex series, with nine Rolex 24 entries. He has also been active in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
Alex Figge, at 31, is a also a relative youngster, but he has a long racing pedigree. He has a few seasons in Formula Atlantic and a couple in IndyCar under his belt, and since then has been racing in the Rolex Series, ALMS, and in the Pirelli World Challenge. In 2013 he’ll be in his third Rolex 24.
Behind the wheel in the 52 car will be Ian Baas, Marc Basseng, Frank Stippler, and René Rast.
Thirty year-old Ian Baas has been an APR regular for several seasons, driving in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Pirelli World Challenge, as well as driving GTs in the Rolex series. In 2013 he’ll be in his fourth Rolex 24.
Marc Basseng has four Rolex 24 starts to his credit, but most of his recent fame has come from driving for All-Inkl Münnich Motorsports in their FIA GT1 Mercedes SLS. The 34-year-old has been racing since 1997, starting with Porsche Carrera Cup and includes rides in the ALMS, VLN, ADAC, and FIA GT2 and GT3. He has a Le Mans start and three Nürburgring 24s.
Frank Stippler comes straight from Audi to help out APR at the Rolex, which will be Stippler’s second. Like Marc Basseng, Stippler has been active recently in the FIA GT1 World Championship, driving an Audi R8 for WRT racing. He has also been active in the Blancpain Endurance Series, VLN, and AADAC MASTers, plus a few seasons in DTM. The 37-year-old Stippler has two class wins in the Nürburgring 24 along with two podiums.René Rast, at 26, is the youngest of car 52’s drivers, but he has plenty of titles to his credit. Rast is a six-time Porsche Carrera Cup champion, who has also raced in BES, ADAC, VLN, ALMS and Rolex. This year will mark his second Rolex 24.
