New Sixers center Andrew Bynum will miss the season opener with right knee pain and will most likely miss the team’s Oct. 31 opener, according to a report on the league’s website.

The 7-foot, 285-pound center who will turn 25 later this month, suffered a bone bruise earlier in the month during on offseason workout. Though Wednesday was slated for Bynum’s return, he remained on the sidelines.

“He’s a big investment for our team,” Sixers general manager Tony DiLeo said. “We want to be cautious.”

The Sixers traded away Andre Iguodala, first-round pick Maurice Harkless, Nikola Vucevic and a future first-round pick to obtain the former Lakers big man in a four-team traded that netted the Lakers Dwight Howard.

Bynum is coming off a season where he set career-high averages with 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds while blocking 1.9 shots per game.
