Rolex Sports Car Series 2012 GT champion AIM Autosport has hired veteran sports car, open-wheel, and stock car driver Max Papis to team up with Jeff Segal for the 2013 season.
Papis has several seasons experience in the Rolex series, including 15 starts in the Rolex 24-hour race, including a class win in 2000 and an overall win in 2002. Driving with Scott Pruett, Papis won the 2004 Daytona Prototype title in 2004. In total, Papis has started 51 Rolex races, winning six with 21 podium finishes and 14 poles.
The 43-year-old Italian driver also has 166 starts in IndyCars, and 90 starts in various NASCAR oval-racing series, plus a partial season in F1 in 1995.
Jeff Segal started driving in the Rolex Series in 2003. His first full season was in 2008 with the SpeedSource team, where he won the 2010 GT title in 2010. He switched to AIM Autosport in 2012 and won another GT championship. Segal has eight wins, and 21 podium finishes in 69 starts.
Emil Assentato, Segal’s co-driver in both championship seasons, will drive the team’s new second car with a co-driver who has yet to be named.
