SAN JOSE, Calif.—The surprise gift of tickets to see Shen Yun Performing Arts was exactly what Mr. and Mrs. Herb Williams were looking for this season. The surprise was out when Mr. and Mrs. Williams went shopping together with their daughter-in-law Miami at the Great Mall in Santa Clara: when they saw the Shen Yun ticket selling kiosk and expressed interest in seeing the show. At this point Miami said, “Oh yeah, we got it for you.”
They all attended the performance together on Saturday night and had a great experience.
“I’ve enjoyed it,” said Mr. Williams a retired computer systems manager for Lockheed Martin. “I thought it was very good.”
“Oh, I loved it! This was amazing!” Said Mrs. Williams, who works as a confidential administrator assistant.
Mrs. Williams was struck by the level of dancing and beautiful costumes of Shen Yun.
“The dancers were just top notch,” she said. “The grace, the beauty, and the customs were to die for. I loved it. It’s great!”
Mr. and Mrs. Williams also found the animated backdrop amazing.
“That was fantastic,” said Mr. Williams.
New York-based Shen Yun is the premier Chinese music and dance company, touring five continents every year. Most of what the audience members experience is classical Chinese dance; ethnic and folk dances pieces are presented as well.
The dance pieces, accentuated by a live orchestra, takes the audience through 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, to different regions , dynasties, and ethnic groups. The audience can appreciate the beauty of Chinese dance while learning about Chinese traditional culture and values at the same time.
Mrs. Williams appreciated the cultural diversity and how Shen Yun transported the audience through different areas.
Shen Yun features dancers who have won top honors from dance competitions around the world and have graduated from dance schools inside and outside of China.
Mr. Williams recognizes the dance training that each performer has undertaken and is certain that he would be unsuccessful in performing any of those dance moves.
“I love the female dancers when they were walking around,” said Mr. Williams. “Their heads were just, I mean, there was no bobbing. Everything was so nice and smooth. … I couldn’t do it.”
In the end Mrs. Williams feels that people just have to go and see Shen Yun.
“Tell them to go see it. Tell them to go see it,” she said. It is indescribable—you have to experience it yourself. Yes! Yes!”
