ORLANDO, Fla.—A television producer and her friend, a martial arts champion from China, enjoyed Shen Yun on Jan. 16. They spoke after the performance at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.
“The traditional dance is very pretty and professional, very nice,” Ms. Wong, the martial artist, said.
Ms. Rienan said Shen Yun was very well-promoted and well-received. She is a television producer and promoter who said she promoted the first Chinese Film Festival in New York at Lincoln Center in 2010.
“I recommend it [Shen Yun] to everyone—from small children to the oldest senior that you can find should come. It would lift their spirits,” Ms. Rienan said.
According to the program, classical Chinese dance is one way in which 5,000 years of Chinese culture has been passed down. The dance form is able to depict scenes from any time period, whether ancient or modern, Eastern or Western, in a strikingly vivid way.
“Great show, great performance,” Ms. Rienan said. “I think it’s wonderful. I think the costumes were extraordinary, and the performers were extraordinary. I think everyone should see this.”
For the costumes, “the designers stress harmonic balance and contrast.” “Their objective is an authentic presentation of the attire that comes from China’s divinely inspired traditional culture, and a consummate stage effect,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
Ms. Rienan particularly enjoyed the Mongolian Bowl Dance,, which symbolized welcome and was set on the vast expanse of China’s northern grasslands. She said, “I love everything from the costume to the choreography, and the whole concept behind it.”
She bragged a little about her modest friend, who has studied martial arts since she was 7 years old. “[She] is a martial arts champion, four times regional.”
Ms. Wong is also working to develop higher-quality theme parks for China, according to Ms. Rienan. Orlando is famous for its theme parks, including Sea World, Epcot, Universal Studios, and Disney World. People come from around the world to visit them.
