MONTREAL—Sonia Trudel bought tickets for her whole family as a Christmas gift to see Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Place des Arts on Sunday.

“It’s very interesting, very nice,” said Mrs. Trudel, vice president of finance at the Old Port of Montreal Corporation, which employs 300 people and received the title of Most Popular Tourist Destination in Montreal by the Zagat survey.

Ms. Trudel came with her husband and parents. Her family said they appreciated their Christmas gifts very much.

Shen Yun has set as its mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture and has over the past seven years grown to include three equally large groups that tour the globe simultaneously.

“It’s very beautiful. They are great dancers,” said Mrs. Trudel’s husband Gaétan Labonté, who heads the IT department for a reinforcing steel company.

While Mr. Labonté enjoyed When Shaolin Monks Protected the Emperor, for Mrs. Trudel, the solo by soprano Pi-Ju Huang was most impressive.

“I really liked also the first soprano. I really liked her voice,” she said.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. With its run of five sold-out shows in Montreal now complete, Shen Yun’s New York Company will play one sold-out show in Quebec City on Jan. 8 before going on to Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, and Toronto in its tour of eastern Canada.
