SAN JOSE, Calif.—A very positive Chinese cultural message, that’s how Matthew Bien described Shen Yun after attending the performance at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts on Jan. 4.
Mr. Bien, who is principal at Homebridge Builders, said the performance “was excellent” and “very enjoyable.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts gives the audience a display of traditional Chinese culture in an exhilarating dance and music performance. The company, which is based in New York, has the mission to revive the 5,000 years of Chinese culture, much of which has been lost under communist rule in China.
Mr. Bien was particularly struck by the “quality of the performers and the choreography.”
After its founding in 2006 Shen Yun rapidly grew, now performing with three companies and orchestras around the world.
“It’s a large production; it’s very well-produced … If you like dance, if you like ballet, you will like this,” said Mr. Bien.
The performance takes the audience on a journey through Chinese history, highlighting ethnic and folk dances, Chinese myths and legends, and themes that play in contemporary China.
